YTT Art-Therapy Mental Health Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Program

Our Art Therapy MHPSS program is powered by a passionate clinical team of professionals, including certified social workers, psychological counsellors, and licensed psychologists. The program creates a therapeutic structure, emphasising art therapy, for refugees, migrants and asylum seekers, particularly in post-migration settings. The modules of the program are adapted and scaled for both individual and family therapy contexts and generate detailed clinical intervention guidelines. Notably focusing on the hurdles that refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers encounter in obtaining mental health services, this program tackles the stressors associated with post-migration experiences and the necessity for culturally sensitive care. Tailored to align with each country’s respective clinical practices, it also outlines participant eligibility and implements thorough evaluation protocols.

The program's impact assessment, through both numerical and descriptive data collection, shows enormous improvements in alleviating distress, diminishing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and enhancing overall self-efficacy. The clinical aspects explored in the program include the themes of compassion, the interplay of colours with emotional reactions, and the fostering of cross-cultural connections through artistic expression. By integrating these elements, the program not only provides therapeutic relief but also nurtures a sense of community and belonging among participants, which is crucial for their recovery journey.

This program actively seeks feedback from it’s participants to refine its methods and ensure the highest level of responsiveness to their needs. This iterative process allows for continuous improvement, making it a living framework that evolves alongside its participants. Workshops and group sessions encourage collaboration and sharing, thereby building trust and facilitating deeper interpersonal connections. By utilising the art-based YTT Learning Approach and YTT Visual Language Database, this program enables individuals to express their unique experiences and emotions, creating a safe space for healing and growth. The comprehensive approach of the YTT Art Therapy MHPSS program ultimately paves the way for sustainable mental health outcomes, empowering refugees, migrants and asylum seekers to reclaim their narratives and foster resilience in their, very often, new environments.
